The Drone Journalism Ethics Wiki is an ongoing, collaborative process to build a comprehensive guide for the ethical operation of drones for journalistic purposes.
The aim of this digital space is to establish standards for drone journalists which respect the right to privacy and public safety, while still enabling journalists to carry out the duties of the fourth estate.
Direct access to editing the wiki is given to drone journalists, drone journalism researchers, and others with a substantial investment in journalism. Nevertheless, public input is valued, and suggestions from the public may be submitted to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Drone Journalism Code of Ethics
Read the current code of ethics on drone journalism. All journalists affiliated with DroneJournalism.org are expected to abide by this code.
Excerpt from the code:
"A code of ethics for drone journalists should be viewed as a layer of additional ethical considerations atop the traditional professional and ethical expectations of a journalist in the 21st century. Additionally, such considerations should not be viewed as the sum total or end of the ethical requirements for drone journalists, but is the minimum that is expected of a drone journalist. This code of ethics wiki, while hoping to address a variety of considerations and to provide case studies as examples, is not designed to be totally comprehensive. Rather, it is a set of guidelines, and the journalist will be the ultimate judge in the field of how to apply those guidelines."
