Take a ride on a drone

flight 2.png

This is footage from on-board an aerial drone test-flight, 348 feet above the cornfields of Champaign, IL, topping out at speeds of 71mph. The flight was made manually, controlled from the ground, while the on-board autopilot recorded things like speed, altitude, position, and orientation.

This particular drone will eventually be used to make aerial photomaps of the ground for studying ecology, environmental science, geology, etc., as part of the NSF-funded Drones for Schools program.

It was developed with the same technology we're using at DroneJournalism.org for investigative reporting.
