Hexcopter takes a trip over, through, ghost island

Hashima Island, also known as "Battleship Island," is a wasteland. A gorgeous, rubble-filled wasteland.

It used to be a major coal mine that played a huge part in industrializing Japan, up until 1974, when oil became a more favorable fuel product. Over the next 36 years, its structures of steel and concrete would fall into disrepair.

All that makes it a perfect playground for a hexcopter.

As a product demo for its Action Cam, Sony took a "drone" on a ride above, below, within, and generally all around the ghost island. The result really captures the versatility of small unmanned aircraft.

The Hero series of GoPro cameras has been preferred video camera for multicopters and "FPV" pilots for the last couple of years, but in recent months, other manufacturers have realized the potential for this market and created tiny high-deffinition cameras.
